“Für Elise” is a piano bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59, composed by Ludwig van Beethoven around 1810. The work is nicknamed Für Elise because the original manuscript read Für Elise am 27 April zur Erinnerung von L. v. Bthvn (For Elise, on April 27, in remembrance of L. v. Bthvn). It is not known exactly who Elise was. However, some scholars, including Max Unger, have suggested that it should have been called Für Therese, since the manuscript was found in the possession of Therese von Brunswick, with whom Beethoven had fallen in love.
