One night, Travis meets his new neighbor, Gabby Holland, who complains that his music is too loud and suggests that his dog, Moby, may have gotten her dog, Molly, pregnant. Unlike the other women, Gabby does not like Travis.

Gabe works as a doctor at a hospital, while Travis assists his father, Dr. Shep, at a veterinary clinic. Shep realized that Travis and Gabe had a special chemistry with each other. At a fair, Travis and Monica run into Gabe and her boyfriend Ryan, which obviously makes Travis uneasy and jealous. Over time, Travis and Gabe develop a friendship, and he takes her and her friends on a trip to the lake. When Ryan is away, Travis helps Gabe when Molly’s puppy is born. Travis takes Gabe to church, where Shep preaches and discusses his late wife’s birthday. Shep turned to her faith after Travis died of cancer when she was 14 years old.

Gabe goes to Travis’ house to discuss puppies, and they begin to argue, voicing their common troubles and their uneasiness about the awkward situation they find themselves in. They can’t deny their attraction to each other, and eventually, they kiss and sleep together.

After Ryan returns from his trip, Gabe continues to spend quality time with his boyfriend, which leaves Travis heartbroken. Travis admits his love for Gabe but understands that he cannot come between her and Ryan. Gabe writes a letter to Travis, disclosing that she confessed her affair to Ryan, resulting in their breakup. Surprisingly, Ryan then proposes to her. In the meantime, Monica confesses to Travis that she is aware of his feelings for Gabe, and although upset, she encourages him to follow his heart.

Motivated by his love for Gabe, Travis visits her parents’ house and seeks their blessing. While they appear satisfied with Travis as their future son-in-law, they dismiss Gabe’s concerns about the situation. Gabe’s mother gifts Travis a ring that once belonged to Gabe’s grandmother, and he uses it to propose. Initially, Gabe declines, but with Travis’s persistent advances, she eventually agrees.

Travis and Gabe tie the knot and spend the next seven years together, welcoming two children into their family. However, as Travis becomes engrossed in his work, he starts to neglect their dates. On one such date night, Gabe thought Travis had made her get up and leave the restaurant. Unfortunately, she was involved in a car accident and fell into a coma.

Travis visits Gabe in the hospital regularly and expresses his love for her. He had the support of Stephanie and their father, but he feared losing Gabe forever.

One afternoon, Travis was out on his boat, passing the house on the lake, and noticed wind chimes blowing. Somehow this inspires him to rush to the hospital, where he finds Gabe awake. He approaches his wife and kisses her.

To make up for missing his last appointment, Travis arranges an outdoor dinner for Gabe. She tells him that she heard every word he said about his love for her. Travis jokes that they would never have met if Moby hadn’t pursued Molly.
