If you call yourself an American English movie buff and you haven’t seen How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, then you’re missing out, my friend. This romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey is a total classic.
In the film, Kate Hudson plays Andie Anderson, a magazine columnist who decides to write an article titled “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” as a favor to her friend Michelle Rubin, who just got dumped. Andie’s plan is to showcase all the typical behaviors that drive men away in relationships. And who does she choose as her unsuspecting test subject? None other than the charming advertising executive Ben Barry, played by McConaughey. Little does Andie know that Ben has made a bet with his coworkers that he can make any woman fall in love with him within the same ten-day period.
This movie, which also features Annie Parisse, Thomas Lennon, and Bebe Neuwirth, became a huge hit, raking in over $177 million at the box office.
Kate Hudson recently reflected on her experience filming How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, describing it as a different era in moviemaking. She mentioned that she and Matthew McConaughey were part of the last generation of actors to truly experience the old-school Hollywood process of making movies. According to her, it was a special time. They spent four months together filming How to Lose a Guy and even six months shooting their 2008 rom-com Fool’s Gold. Nowadays, you don’t often see movies with such lengthy shoots unless they’re big-budget Marvel flicks or something like that.
During an interview, Kate Hudson even suggested the idea of a potential sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She pondered how their characters, Andie and Ben, would be now if they were still together. She imagines they would have gotten married and had kids, but maybe they’d be miserable. Andie, being ambitious, probably would have advanced in her career and be running something important by now.
Despite the possibility of a sequel, Kate Hudson remains close with many of her co-stars, including Kathryn Hahn. She shared a picture with Kathryn on Instagram, expressing her love and how much she missed her. These two talented actresses reunited in the 2022 film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and have been great friends ever since their first movie together. Kathryn even joked about their friendship, mentioning the famous love fern from the movie and how she always thought Kate Hudson was a miracle.
It’s been over 20 years since How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days hit the big screen, and it’s interesting to see where the cast members are now. Kate Hudson, after starring in several successful romantic comedies, is now venturing into music and plans to release her debut album in 2023. Matthew McConaughey, known for his charming roles, has had a diverse career and has taken on more dramatic and critically acclaimed projects. He’s also happily married to Camila Alves, and they have three beautiful children together. As for Kathryn Hahn, she has continued to impress audiences with her versatile acting skills and recently made her mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Bebe Neuwirth, who played a supporting role in the film, has had a successful theater career, earning two Tony Awards for her performances in Sweet Charity and Chicago. She has had two marriages, with Paul Dorman from 1984 to 1991 and Chris Calkins since 2009.
